Ruth Rubio-Siaz

Events Committee

About me

Ruth Rubio-Siaz, a Mexican American, was born in a small town near McAllen, Texas.  Her parents, José and Zulema Carreon were long-time migrant workers until Jose came to Ohio to
work in the construction of the railroad.  Ruth was left behind to be raised by her grandmother and later came to Cleveland, to join her parents in 1964.

Jose and Zulema (deceased) through the support of The Azteca Club-Casa México, Cleveland’s First and oldest Mexican social and cultural club of Northeast Ohio, dedicated much of their free time as leaders and advocates of the Mexican and Latino community in Cleveland.  It was through her parents that Ruth became passionate about helping others.

Ruth graduated from Lincoln-West High School and later went on to study at Tri-C., finishing her training as a social worker.  Through marriage, she became acculturated into the Peruvian culture and traditions, and had five beautiful Peruvian-Mexican children, and currently 9 grandchildren.  Ruth went on to work as a federal employee and retired after 30 years of service.

Ruth has been active in the Latino community since she was still in High School.  Her involvement and dedication to the Azteca Club-Casa México extended over 40 years and currently serves as the club’s Executive Director.

Though the majority of her experience has been through personal life experience as well as hands-on training, Ruth received and completed her formal training as a Court Interpreter/Translator through the Ohio Supreme Court Interpreter program as well as Immigration Family law studies through the Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Program in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She later returned to college to study to become a Paralegal. Becoming an interpreter/translator has allowed her to help many Latino immigrants and non-immigrants as well, to navigate their way through not just our complex justice and immigration system, but medical, employment and education matters as well to families not just in the Greater Cleveland area, but as far out as Painesville, Youngstown, Lorain and Toledo.

Ruth currently works as an independent contractor for various agencies as a Paralegal and Interpreter/Translator. She is a die-hard immigrant advocate for the Latino community where she volunteers much of her free time as a member of various non-profit organizations, providing guidance and resources to the community, but most importantly, a voice from which to speak through!
